The demand for these wines far exceeds the Domaine's production, making it practically impossible to obtain a bottle if you are not one of the privileged few who have been, for decades, on its distribution list. Armand Rousseau wines are not available to the general market. Getting a bottle is like winning the lottery. If you don't have a connection… c'est la vie. One of the historic and emblematic Wineries of Burgundy. It is almost impossible to get a bottle. Something that elevates enjoyment to stratospheric levels when you finally have the opportunity to uncork these delicacies.
This Domaine owes its reputation and quality to Charles Rousseau, who seized the
Baton in 1959. His son Eric, being just as meticulous as his father, has already been the leader of the Clan for four decades, contributing his grain of sand, but following his Father's blueprint, as a guide. The Rousseau family is pioneers of the region. One of the first families to bottle and sell their own wine, instead of doing it through businessmen.
In the 1930s, Rousseau was one of the original wineries to export its wine to the United States after the end of prohibition.
The Winery is located in Gevrey Chambertin, in the Cotes de Nuits region, the most prestigious area for red wines in Burgundy. The family also has parcels in the Grand Cru vineyards Clos De Beze, Chambertin, Clos De Ruchottes, Mazis Chambertin, Charmes Chambertin, Mazoyeres Chambertin and Clos De la Roche. 15 total hectares, with approximately a production of 70,000 bottles, depending on the harvest.
