An overtly floral-suffused nose speaks of airy red berry scents that are liberally laced with a lovely range of spice elements. There is markedly better complexity to the medium-bodied flavours that possess excellent punch and this sense of vibrancy also can be found on the long and quite firm if once again slightly drying finish. In this case, however, it appears that the dryness may be attributable to the abundant gas and my projected range offers the benefit of the doubt in this regard.
Echezeaux is a grand cru vineyard covering the slopes above the Clos de Vougeot vineyard in the Flagey-Echézeaux commune of Burgundy's Côte de Nuits. Like its famous neighbor, it is considerably larger than most grand cru vineyards, spanning nearly 40 hectares (100 acres) of land.
Echezeaux wines, made exclusively from Pinot Noir, are on the full-bodied end of the Burgundy spectrum, showing red fruit as well as spice and undergrowth characters.
